On August 23rd, 2024, Meade County Schools, in partnership with Centegix, hosted a special Community Safety Event at the Meade County College and Career Center. The event celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to the safety and well-being of students and staff, with a focus on the district’s commitment to creating a secure learning environment. The evening culminated in a ceremony on the football field where local heroes were honored for their outstanding dedication.
Ava Hernandez: Student Hero Award
Ava Hernandez, a Meade County High School student, was honored with the Student Hero Award for her remarkable maturity and compassion. Last year, Ava consistently supported a classmate experiencing a medical condition, remaining by her side during challenging times. Her actions exemplify the empathy and care that define the Meade County community.
Deputy Scotty Singleton: Staff Hero Award
Meade County Sheriff's Deputy and School Resource Officer, Scotty Singleton, received the Staff Hero Award. With 22 years in law enforcement and six years as an SRO, Deputy Singleton has been a steadfast protector and mentor to students. His commitment to building trust and ensuring school safety has made a lasting impact on the community.
Karen Cottrell: Community Hero Award
Retired School Nurse Karen Cottrell was recognized with the Community Hero Award for her visionary role in establishing the Healthy Kids Clinics in Meade County Schools. Her efforts have brought essential healthcare services directly to students, promoting a healthier and safer learning environment. The clinics are a lasting testament to her dedication to student health.
Chief Brian Haag: First Responder Hero Award
Chief Brian Haag of the Brandenburg Police Department was awarded the First Responder Hero Award. Chief Haag has been instrumental in enhancing school safety, working with administrators to secure an additional School Resource Officer. His active involvement in the community, including his support for the Shop with a Hero program, makes him a deserving recipient of this honor.
A Community United by Safety
The Meade County Community Safety Event made possible through the district’s safety partnership with Centegix, not only celebrated these outstanding individuals but also reaffirmed the district’s commitment to safety. As the first district in Kentucky to install the Centegix safety platform, Meade County Schools continues to set a new standard for school safety. The event, shared with Henderson County Schools, emphasized that “When Safety Leads, Success Follows.”
