During Opening Day Ceremonies earlier this month, Meade County Schools proudly recognized Mrs. Tory Brown, Special Education Teacher at David T. Wilson Elementary, as the 2025 Special Education Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Brown has served for five years in Meade County and six years in education overall. She received multiple nominations that praised her ability to go above and beyond to meet the unique needs of her students. She is known for creating a classroom where every child is loved, supported, and challenged at their own level. Whether adapting lessons with errorless learning, building in sensory breaks, or using hands-on activities like science dissections, Mrs. Brown ensures learning is accessible and meaningful for every student.
Her dedication extends beyond her classroom walls. She mentors general education peers to work with her students, advocates for inclusion in school-wide activities, and partners with local businesses to provide opportunities for her class to participate in community events such as trick-or-treating. She also works closely with families and specialists to provide consistent support and keeps parents informed of progress at every stage.
Principal Annette Fackler praised Mrs. Brown’s work, sharing that “Tory’s patience, creativity, and compassion make her classroom a safe and inclusive place where every child thrives. She is not just a teacher. She is an advocate, a mentor, and a champion for her students and their families. Her work reflects the best of what we want for all children.”
Director of Special Education, Mrs. Carole Brown also reflected on her recognition, noting that “Tory Brown shows us every day what it means to believe in children and to meet them exactly where they are. Her commitment to her students and families reminds us of the heart of public education, which is to serve every child with care, patience, and hope.”
Mrs. Brown’s recognition as Special Education Teacher of the Year reflects her heart for students, her service to colleagues, and her commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Each spring, an awards committee composed of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from across the district. Individuals nominated for this award may then choose to fill out an application for competitive consideration by the committee.
Congratulations to Mrs. Tory Brown on this well-deserved honor.
